The Richmond Road Races

The Richmond Road Races “Run Fast or Freeze”

Bushtukah has been the presenting sponsor of this Run Ottawa event for many years. Held the second weekend in January it’s the first race of the year for many local runners. There is a 5K and a 10K route with the start and finish at South Carleton High School in Richmond.

As a general rule the weather is cold and windy but it’s January so what else would you expect!  The high school cafeteria is open to all runners so you can go straight from the gym to the start and right back to the gym from the finish!

Post race lunch at the Richmond Road Races

The post race lunch includes soup and hot coffee to warm everyone up. Registration for the 37th edition on January 13th can be found here

2016 Events- 9 Run Run

This was the 7th year for this event. A 1/2 marathon, a 10K and a family 2k all held in Stittsville. A great event with a real community feel.

Ottawa’s Emergency Services support of this race makes it like no other in town. Uniformed Police. Paramedics and Firefighters passing out medals, the biggest flag around and the Chief’s Chilli  Cook-off which the Fire Services always win.

The Winterlude Triathlon

The Winterlude  triathlon is a skate-ski-run triathlon held on the Rideau Canal, the world’s largest skating rink.  It’s part of Ottawa’s Winterlude, a celebration of Canada’s unique northern climate and culture. It’s an 8k skate followed by an 8k ski and a 5k run.

Bushtukah has been a sponsor for many years. Mother nature often plays a role in this event. We have had years when it was really cold and years when it was not cold enough. IMG_0256_copyLucky for us all, long time race director Rick Hellard rolls with the weather and always makes it happen.

The 2019 edition of the event will be held on February 2nd. Details can be found here.

The Mad Trapper Snowshoe Series

This series of three races is held at The Ark past Wakefield. Each event includes a 5K and a 10K distance. If you have never tried it snowshoe running is tough but it’s a lot of fun and these events are a great way to try it out. You can rent running snowshoes on site and rental is free for first time participants. The atmosphere is fun, friendly and each event includes a home made post race meal, beer and Mike’s amazing brownies! Awards and prizes provided by Bushtukah and other sponsors are awarded in a somewhat random fashion where first time participants have a definite advantage.

Our favorite is the Bushtukah Night Race. It’s a fund raiser for I2P  and there is nothing quite like running through the woods on a starlit night!
